We had a wonderful start to our day with a warm welcoming ceremony. Our friends always go out of their way to make us feel so special! Following the ceremony we did a school tour - taking in all the sights of KG school. We then made our way via foot and two trains to Arashiyama - NW of Kyoto. Here we travelled by a older train along the Hozugawa river and exited at the Bamboo grove. Bamboo can grow up to 3-5 feet a year!
Students then enjoyed their Bento box lunches and we then headed up hill to see the Iwatayama Monkey Park! Spectacular view of Kyoto and fun feeding wild monkies! Then it was back to KG to meet billets! Awesome day with lots of walking and fresh air! First thing this morning we met our students at Kyoto Gakuen briefly as they came to collect their luggage! All were looking refreshed and excited for their first day with their billet families! Clearly everyone had been rejuvenated from a good nights sleep! We adults had a great day, walking and enjoying the downtown and river area! Here are a few of our pictures - the nicest of all was finding a few Cherry trees still in blossom!
Tomorrow will see us begin our first of six days of trips with a staff member from the school! Till then..... We travelled 6,000 air miles over a total of 11 hours in the air to begin our journey! The AC 787 Dreamliner was lovely and students and staff worked, played and enjoyed some gorgeous views! YYC goodbyes were short and emotional for sure! Next post soon
Our crew took a lot of time to create some ingenious and delicious Sushi tonight ....... however, we are all sure that soon we will be seeing better works of art!
Today is our last student meeting - sushi making it is ! And tonight we have our last Parent/Guardian meeting - last details and now only seven sleeps till we leave!
